“A passion for sharing knowledge” is what drives Alejandro’s commitment to spoken language interpreter training. Alejandro Gonzalez is the Resource Development Manager at MCIS Language Services. A Master in Conference Interpretation Graduate of York University, Glendon in Toronto and a Business Administration Graduate of the Universidad Javeriana in Cali, Colombia, Alejandro possesses background knowledge in language instruction and behavioural facilitation. In his six years working at MCIS, Alejandro has contributed significantly to curriculum and content development for the Classroom-based and Online Language Interpreter Training offered at the agency, with notable advancements to interpreting in the legal, healthcare and social services.

One of Alejandro’s most significant accomplishments for the agency has been the development of the Online Language Interpreter Training (OLIT) for which he led a team of instructional designers, subject matter experts, voice talents and graphic designers. As a result of this training mega-project which entailed the complete transfer of the traditional, classroom-based program into an online format, the agency now has an efficient asynchronous tool to train interpreters remotely, while observing the agency’s values of Quality, Responsiveness, and Cost-effectiveness, as well as the standards set out in the Canadian National Standard Guide for Community Interpreting Services (NSGCIS).

Alejandro has been in the Language Interpretation and Translation industry since 1999, following in his mother’s footsteps, Maria Idalia Ramirez, a translator certified by Colombia’s Ministerio de Justicia y Relaciones Exteriores. Alejandro has continued his commitment to lifelong learning guided by the principle that languages, individuals, and organizations evolve and change over time. Thus, in order to stay current and competent in the language industry one must strive to maintain and improve language service quality. Alejandro is a graduate from the Master of Conference Interpreting program of York University – Glendon School of Interpretation.
